Abstract

Announced 30 September 2026, extending Kong's open-source Volcano agent SDK into a full AI-native platform for building, deploying and operating agents. The strategic bet is that agents reach enterprise data through MCP rather than direct API calls, and that the durable position is the governed layer in between — handling authentication, rate limits and observability the way Kong's API gateway does for conventional traffic. The SDK demo builds a query-summarise-post workflow in nine lines; the platform supports models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Azure, AWS and GCP. The open question reported is whether developers adopt Volcano or default to larger incumbent frameworks.
